Gardens Party highlights JPL roundIN-FORM TIVOLI Gardens and hot-and-cold Arnett Gardens face off as another ‘Gardens Party’ can be counted as the feature match of a Jamaica Premier League (JPL) round. The game takes place at the Jamaica College (JC) Ashenheim Stadium today at 5:30 p. m. Not long ago, Tivoli sat in 12th with seven points, however, three wins on the trot have pushed them to ninth on 16 points. Coach and former player Jermaine ‘Teddy’ Johnson knows all too well the nature of this particular contest and expects a classic matchup. “This match is going to be a very serious match. It is a big derby, Tivoli Gardens versus Arnett Gardens. “You have to be ready for the tackles, you have to be ready for the fans shouting at you.
“It (win) will be a huge stepping stone but we are just taking it one game at a time. Even one point against this Arnett Gardens team would be a good result. “That is the mindset, to get three points. But you have to come on the day and work for it and do the right things to get the win, ” he commented.
Last week, Arnett climbed to third on 21 points with their first win in three matches. But three wins in their last seven suggest the ‘junglists’ haven’t been able to find any consistency. “Nobody wants a setback now. The aim is to go forward. So we just aim to stay consistent and keep moving forward. We are looking for a better performance but, as long as we get the three points, it is good, ” said Davis. The 5:30 p. m. feature is the second game of a double-header at the Ashenheim Stadium with Cavalier and Montego Bay United opening proceedings at 3 p. m. livingston.
“That is the mindset, to get three points. But you have to come on the day and work for it and do the right things to get the win, ” he commented. CONFIDENT AND FOCUSED “As a coach, you always have to be confident and focused and try to put that through to the players. And this game is a serious game so they have to be serious and confident. We just want the fans to come out and support us.
“It is going to take a lot more against the Tivoli team because they are running hard and they are physical. So we have to play our game and, when we get our chances, we take them. “The injuries will affect us but football goes on. We just have to step up to the plate. All over the world, you have players out and players on the bench want to make their mark. So it is for them to show that they are ready, ” he said.
